Justin Fashanu - Not Forgotten

Justin Fashanu - Not Forgotten

JMD Media are delighted to announce the publication on Feb 1st of our updated biography of Justin Fashanu. A Barnardo's boy, Justin was one of Britain's finest young footballers. Who will ever forget his MOTD goal of the season against Liverpool in 1980? His football career never really hit the heights that it should with his talent, and he played for many clubs over the next 17 years until he retired in 1997.

Justin is also well known as the first openly gay footballer, coming out in 1990. He was listed at number 99 in the Top 500 Lesbian and Gay Heroes in The Pink Paper.

Tragically, Justin took his own life in 1998 following allegations of sexual assault which he vehemently denied.

A complex man, this story is about love, glory, drama and tragedy.

The publication of the book coincides with The Football v Homophobia Month of Action 2025 - an initiative where football clubs, fan groups, leagues, and organizations focus their efforts to tackle LGBTQ+ discrimination and promote inclusion in grassroots football.

If you are in the media and you're interested in running a story about Justin, then please contact me on 07914 647382 and I can arrange an interview with the author Jim Read.
