Folkestone Past and Present

This book gives a vivid insight into the dramatic changes that have taken place in Folkestone in recent times. It combines a remarkable selection of historic photographs with modern views of the same scenes.

It records transformations such as the redevelopment of the harbour and foreshore in the 1930s, and the grievous damage inflicted on the lower end of town by enemy action of World War Two.

It also records whole networks of streets which were removed and recalls houses and public buildings, shops, businesses and pubs that have vanished or been altered almost beyond recognition.

It takes the reader on a tour of Folkestone during the early 19th century, and comparing it with the Folkestone of the end of the 20th century.
